... a utopian gallery.

Sibylle Vabre

Which is it?

The Galerie sans lieu (lit. Gallery without place) comes from the union of a desire and an observation : the desire to show the work of diverse artists, and the increase of alternative places which host exhibitions.

My aim is to make people meet, to give opportunities to the artists to  use such spaces.

The Gsl records these meetings, and it is thought as a showcase for the artists who are represented. It is a threshold to cross, to reach a virtual net and real exhibitions.

Who am I?

I work jointly with the artists, yet I wouldn't define myself as a curator, because the ways and means of our collaboration change according to the person. What's more, the artist's word will always take priority over mine.

Involved in the association Le 188, a cultural structure in Lille, I founded the project 188EXPOSITIONS, which aims to promote the work of breakthrough artists.

The project was the starting point of a more general reflection upon what I use to call "secondary exhibition places", which I study under the direction of Cécilia Hurley-Griener at the École du Louvre.

Student in museology, I also do a course of management of cultural institutions at Audencia Business School.

After studying history of art, aesthetics and philosophy, I chose to devote myself to art being made.
